Soldierfish

Soldierfish and the closely related squirrelfish constitute the family Holocentridae. They are reddish in color and have large eyes. Soldierfish are distinguished by their blunt snouts and the missing preopercular spines. They typically range from 15 centimeters (6 inches, East Indian soldierfish) to 32 centimeters (12.6 inches, brick soldierfish) in length. Soldierfish inhabit the coastal waters of the tropical Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans.
