Electric Ray

Lesser electric ray (public domain)

Electric rays are a group of rays capable of producing an electric discharge of anywhere from 8 to 220 volts. The electricity is used to stun prey, but it is also used for self-defense. An electric ray’s body typically consists of a broad and nearly circular disc, a short snout, and a short, thick tail. The shock delivered by the marbled electric ray is seldom deadly to humans but can be very painful.
